Petition Letter: Dear Professor Houghtaling,
I am reaching out in hopes of gaining late admission to GNDS 125.
I was in GNDS 120 last semester and found your teaching style to be clear and engaging, and thoroughly enjoyed the course as a whole. This may show up as incomplete on Solus because my progress was paused due to medical leave, but I am just brushing up on the last few tasks and will have it completed very soon.
The circumstances that led me to ask for late enrolment are as follows: I reached out to the sociology department head in hopes of gaining admission to 200-level sociology courses. Dr. Burfoot granted that permission for 2 specific courses and provided an email contact to add them into my schedule, so I emailed that person and dropped two courses so that they could add them on SOLUS without any trouble. Unfortunately, I later realized the named courses were only available in fall 2021.
I am really interested in gender and race studies as well as sociology, and would love to pick up this course if possible. I am also taking Religion and Popular Culture this semester, and I think these two subjects in conjunction would be fascinating. I have plenty of time to dedicate to catching up as per my academic plan below, and I hope you will consider this.

- Worked ahead this week to accommodate 2 additional weeks of content in a new course
- Revised my weekly schedule to give each course an appropriate time commitment
- Taken SOCY 122 and GNDS 120, which may be helpful in expediting my understanding of introductory material

- Stay in communication with my TA to ensure success in the course
- Catch up to the same progress level as the rest of the Class by Friday
