Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To the Arts and Science Associate Dean of Appeals,

The reason this appeal is being made is that I have extenuating reasons that pertain to STAT 353, and therefore I want to drop it in favour of taking MATH 337. STAT 353 has caused me a lot of mental stress and anguish which has gotten so serious that whenever I think of doing work for the course I feel extremely ill. This is not to say the course is not possible nor that professor Takahara is unreasonable, however, I find that the course is much too difficult for me to study online due to many factors; inability to ask questions during lectures, inability to study with others, and lack of resources easily accessible online. These reasons were solidified when I completed the first assignment for the course, in which I felt completely lost even though I completed all the lecture notes as well as did extra studying from the course textbook.

For why I want to study MATH 337 instead is due to the fact that I genuinely enjoyed the course. The reason I dropped the course in the first place was because I thought that I needed STAT 353, whereas I did not need MATH 337. However, I have since done research into my degree plan and found that I indeed can take either MATH 337 or STAT 353, in which case I would definitely choose MATH 337. I already have the first two weeks of notes personally completed, as well I have already completed the assignment that is due on February 2nd, so I will not be very behind. I have already consulted professor Peter Taylor about this issue, and he has agreed to support my decision if the appeal is successful. Thanks for reading, and I appreciate any considerations that the associate dean performs on my behalf.
