Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing to appeal to take three courses this summer at Fudan University in China (my home country which I am currently living in), and transfer equivalent course credits (9 credits) back to Queen¿¿s.
I am now a third-year student majoring in physics. In the first two years, I completed about 30 credits each year as suggested. As almost all courses are delivered remotely this year, our department suggested us to take 3-4 courses each semester and to catch up in spring/summer term. By the end of April, 7 courses would be finished in my 2020-2021 academic year. (My transcript is submitted with the application.) I checked Queen¿¿s summer course list but no course in my major plan will be offered. Therefore, I need to take some elective courses to avoid leaving too many courses to the last year.
The reasons for taking elective courses in China are time zone and financial consideration. The time of live sessions (like group discussions and seminars) perfectly works for me since I am in the same time zone as teachers in Chinese universities. I can attend all lectures and discussions, which would benefit my learning outcome and experience. Additionally, tuition for summer courses in China is cheaper. My family lost part of income due to the pandemic, so I hope to complete some courses with lower tuition, to avoid posing a greater burden on my family.
If you have questions or need further information, please contact me. Thank you for your consideration in this matter.
Best regards,
Keyan Lin (Karen)

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: I am planning to take three elective courses this summer in China, and complete other courses required for my degree at Queen's in the fourth year. As before, I plan to take 5 courses each semester to maintain workload in a proper level. I believe it would help me have a better learning outcome in the fourth year as well as complete my degree on time.
