Petition Letter

Petition Letter: I am writing to you to request to drop my HIST214 class. I am a long-time sufferer of anxiety and panic attacks which I can usually manage with medication however I feel that lately with the ongoing pandemic issues I have been overwhelmed with my classes. This has been more of an issue to me the last couple of weeks however I have been struggling to complete assignments since February. I thought I could push my way through the semester however the pressure has been mounting and that is why I did not drop my class by the deadline. I have been having difficulty concentrating, anxiety, panic attacks and physical symptoms of stress including muscle tension, headaches, lack of sleep and high blood pressure. These issues make studying and especially writing assignments very difficult complete. My HIST214 requires many writing assignments that I do not feel that I can manage at this time. I have not completed 2 writing assignments that are past due, a discussion and there is an upcoming major assignment. I have not had the mental or physical energy to write and research assignments for this course. I have enjoyed what I have absorbed up until this point. It is not the content of the course but it is the amount of work that is overwhelming.

I feel that I can complete my 2 PSYC classes for the rest of this semester as they involve more reading and completing quizzes rather than writing. I chose to drop HIST214 because it is the least important of the 3 courses towards my diploma this semester. Also, since I have been a Psychology student for some time I am familiar with the content of my PSYC classes which makes it easier to comprehend. I find the stress from the pandemic unbearable at times and it has definitely affected my school work as I was at the top of my class at Georgian College in all my classes. Not being able to give my best work is also very stressful as I am not used to having such a poor grades. Going forward into next semester I will be sure to pick courses that have more quizzes rather than writing assignments in order to maintain my course work in a less stressful manner.

I have consulted my doctor on this matter and I have attached is a letter of recommendation requesting that I drop my HIST214 course for medical reasons.

Thank you for your consideration and have a great day.

Kind Regards,

Connie Matiz 20248959
