Petition Letter: Hello my name is Rahul and I really want to drop statistics. I don't like seeking mental health support or talking to people about mental health in general because honestly I just don't like to talk about it and I think it's too personal. I should of dropped statistics earlier but I underestimated how hard it was and it's the biggest mistake I've made. A 2nd year course like stats was a bit too much for me to handle first year and I really wish I either didn't take it or dropped it earlier. I'm just a first year that's new to university. My second reason is I attach the part-time status to failure because I hate being a part time student. during high school I had to part time before and it made me sad because none of my other friends did part time and I was the only one with 2 courses. I don't like to reach out or talk to people about things like this. Honestly it's a bad habit to not talk about things that bothers people but at the end of the day I just prefer not to talk about it and that's 100 on me not the universities fault. I was referred by an Academic Advising person to get mental health and honestly I didn't like that idea and I really didn't want to actually show up to the call. I'm kind of a nervous guy which is why I probably was referred to talk to someone. This might all just sound like excuses but it's just the truth. The truth is I overestimated myself took a 2nd year course, felt overwhelmed then I was too embarrassed to drop the course so it went over the deadline. That's literally the truth. There's no reason for the university to feel sorry for me because at the end of the day that's on me. I own up to my mistakes. Going forward if this appeal gets rejected I understand because I don't have any actual mental health issues I'm just a first year that overestimated myself and is now paying the price because I didn't quite understand the ramifications of not dropping before the deadline. I mean I don't want to think of what happens if this appeal gets rejected because honestly then I just might fail stats it's already kind of sad as it is doing bad in a course. I don't know what to expect at all when I send this form, all I ask is for a quick reply. I hate to use corona as an excuse because everyone is dealing with corona but man it really is sad not seeing any of my friends for a year. Most of my friends from high school all went to different universities and I haven't seen them since March 2020 which is depressing as it is. At the end of the day though university isn't a place to go meet new people, it's primarily a facility to study and peruse a person's education. If this appeal gets accepted ill never underestimate a course again and ill always talk to academic advisors and course coordinators before I get myself into bad situations. If it gets rejected I understand because at the end of the day it's just university. My only request is a fast reply because this has been on my mind for a while now and the only reason I delayed this already late appeal is because I wanted to talk to a mental health advisor first before submitting this application. Also talking to the academic advisor and course coordinator actually really helped me and ill talk more in the future going forward. There's no reason to deal with problems alone when queens has such good staff and mental health services that are available.
Sincerely,
Rahul Seebaransingh.
