Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Hello,
I am writing this letter to request a CR for BCHM 218 due to circumstances beyond my control. Both my mid term and final exams were worth 30 each. During my mid-term it was extremely difficult to get through my 3-hour exam. I live at home with my family at the moment due to COVID-19, with that being said, asking for 3 hours of uninterrupted silence is difficult to ensure/control. This exam was taken on Examity with live proctoring. During this 3 hour period, I experienced many inconveniences. My grandmother lives with me and so she does not understand how to use technology, she is too scared to answer the door when it rings, and she needs my help with a lot of things. I bring this up because during the exam (I had warned her that I would not be available during this time), she proceeded to call my name, received several phone calls on speaker phone (she does not know how to operate electronics), and the door bell kept ringing consistently at one point in time for about 15-20 minutes. All of these distractions added excess stress to an already intense situation, and on top of all this, the proctor kept interrupting me to ensure I was not cheating. She refused to let me use my calculator during the exam until she got the OK from my professor, which delayed my exam start time, this made me extremely nervous already. No one else was home so they could not help my grandmother and I understand the proctor was doing her job. However, with all this going on, I could not even think properly. Had I written this exam in a hall with no distractions, I would have not been so side-tracked/stressed and done way better in the course since this grade contributed a great deal of my overall mark in the course.
Thank you for reading my letter,
Katia John
