Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I am writing to express my desire to withdraw from two courses after deadline due to my severe depression. I have suffered from depression for several years and over these last few months the symptoms have been worse. I returned home to Hong Kong over the Christmas Break and unfortunately found the will and desire to continue with my studies difficult. I have been actively seeing my psychiatrist and counselor upon my return and we are exploring new medications to help me with my depression. Unfortunately, this is a slow process and I have found myself fighting extreme exhaustion and a lack of focus which has inhibited me from focusing on course work, even after withdrawing from my other courses. I was hospitalized for over a week in a psychiatric hospital here in Hong Kong due to suicidal ideation and have been struggling to regain my focus on my studies. My goal is to focus right now on my mental health in the hopes of taking a summer course and/or continuing with my education at Queens in the Fall of 2021.
I ask that you take these circumstances into your consideration to allow me to withdraw from these courses without penalty.
