Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Within the last year I began suffering from anxiety, depression, and gender identity issues. Over the last several months this has become so bad that it resulted in me struggling to get out of bed in the morning let alone focus on schoolwork. Most days I found myself turning off my alarm and sleeping in past noon after telling myself that it would not even be worth it to get up and do work. If I did manage to make it to my computer I would often open OnQ and try to get work done but find myself completely losing focus, due either to lack of sleep or my thoughts being entirely devoted to my gender identity. Online classes have not made this easier as it has always been a teaching medium that I struggled with. I barely made it through my first semester courses with passing grades and by the second semester my depression was so overwhelming that I just gave up trying.
Recently my grandmother on my mum's side passed away from Alzheimer's and Covid complications. I was never very close with her as she lived on the west coast, but her passing has made my mother very short tempered, and she often takes out that anger on me. On top of that neither of my parents are very supportive of my transition. These things combined create a very stressful and overwhelming home environment which has only made my depression and anxiety worse.
I have started taking steps to get better though. I have been talking to a gender therapist once a month since February and have been sorting out my identity issues as well as my family issues with her (If you need to contact her, her name is Amanda Lane and her email address is amandala@kchc.ca., and a letter from her should be attached to this appeal). I have spoken with all my professors about salvaging whatever I can of my academic career. Two have made arrangements to help me complete their course within the next month before the end of the term, and the other three I am dropping with this appeal.
Thank you for your time,
-Camden Kilfoyle
