Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I worked all term on my first term paper and reviewed it endless amount of times. I followed all course descriptions, including choosing my own topic (which in the instructions in the syllabus is stated that we can choose our own). The professor also said we do not need to run our topic by him if the topic is relevant to the course material, in which it was. The professor also stated, he did not know what my topic was, however I fluidly outlined the topic. Along with this, I cited the professor in my paper many times in accordance to the online lectures, in which I have done many times in other classes, when we weren't learning online. However, one of the professors main critiques was that I shouldn't cite him. However, when I was studying in person at Queens, we always were allowed to cite lectures. The professor also said sometimes that the citations he did not say, however, the professor did say these quotes. More importantly his critique as I stated was that I should stop citing the professor. However, as I just mentioned this is a normal practice when we are not working from home in an online environment. I spoke to my other philosophy teacher and he said that if the teacher did not clarify they do not want you to cite them, then it should be clearly stated. I have been psychologically effected deeply by this and have put aside my studies in this course completely as I feel even if I do well on my next term paper, the final grade will still be low because the professor gave me a 55 on an extremely fluid and correct paper. I do not feel comfortable continuing in this class and would greatly appreciate if I can just drop this course.
