Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I need to drop this course because I haven't been able to engage properly due to my severe anxiety. Online learning environments such as zoom classes have proven to be extremely stressful causing me to be unable to participate. The class is based around engaging with a social movement and unfortunately, due to Covid-19 all of the engagement opportunities had to take place in an online format such as zoom meetings. As I mentioned above, online learning environments are severely distressing to me which limited my ability to properly engage with an organization. I am currently seeking help from a personal counselor and begun taking medication however, I do not think I will be able to complete this course this semester. I plan to make up the credit by taking a summer course that I have already enrolled in. By the summer semester I hope to be able to cope better with my anxiety and maybe even have the chance to be back in a real classroom. When my anxiety improves I will be able to keep up with the course I chose to replace this credit with and I will be able to better understand the content. Covid-19 has heightened my anxiety and has created uncomfortable circumstances in which I have not been able to learn in specifically for my final semester. I took a reduced course load however that was not enough to allow me to get through the semester.
