Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,

I am appealing to drop ECON 111 after the academic deadline because of extenuating circumstances beyond my control that will make it extremely challenging to successfully complete the course. If I am eligible, I would also consider aegrotat standing for the same circumstance. On Sunday, April 4, there was a significant fire at my home. Fortunately, my family and I were okay, but the experience was traumatic, and amongst other things, my computer and economics notes were destroyed. I obviously could not anticipate this event before the academic drop deadline and have been doing great overall in the course. With the chaos this event has created in my life I will not be able to prepare adequately for the exam, and need to focus on courses I require to graduate. I would also appreciate your confirmation that I do not need this course to graduate, before I proceed with dropping it. If I am eligible for aegrotat standing this would be my preference, as I have completed a significant amount of the coursework.

Thanks for your consideration and I'd be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Carter Smith
