Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Hello,
I would like to drop CISC 223 as at the moment, I have calculated my grades and am estimating that, in the best case, I can achieve at least 50-65 on the next assignment and perhaps somewhere near the 65-75 range for the final exam. Given that, I will simply be unable to achieve a 60 minimum in the course regardless of the final exam mark since 80 of the grade will have already been determined by that point. This puts a serious amount of strain on my current academic career and GPA as most likely I will need to retake this course to achieve 60. I need at least 60 in this course because it is a prerequisite for a course I have to take in third year.
Given my current personal situation I will be very open and let you know that I have been struggling a lot this semester with online learning, especially with this course as it is very theoretical and dense. The ongoing pandemic has negatively affected my mental health and academic performance, I have found myself extremely overwhelmed this semester and have not performed as well as I would have hoped on the assignments and tests in this course. I have tried everything I possibly could to remediate this situation before the final i.e asking the professor for extensions on assignments or opportunities for extra credit however he has been unwilling to accommodate. Thus, I have no other choice than to drop this course now and retake it either in the fall or next winter.
I feel that for now it would be best for me to just focus on finishing the best I possibly can with my other courses this semester and retake CISC 223 in my third year when I will be hopefully more motivated and prepared.
Sincerely,
Kyle
