Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Hello,
My name is Siân Ruttan and I am a second year Con-Ed/BAH-Music Major.
My university career started off to a rough start when I was raped last September.
The past year has been a constant battle with my mental health and with issues around the assault.
I thought I would be able to take on this semester with no problem, but throughout the semester my mental health really declined.
The pandemic and online school has added another layer of anxiety to everything else I was already dealing with around my own mental health.
I was unable to focus, or even get out of bed some days.
About three weeks ago (today's date being April 8th, 2021) I received a call from Victim Services (people who work with those who have experienced abuse) and I found out I will have to appear in court this month, and face the man who raped me for the first time since it happened.
I have a lot to think about around this trial, and I think it would be best to remove these courses in order to support my mental health.
I have communicated and explained my situation to all my professors, who have all taken great understanding in my situation and have offered great support.
Thank you
-Siân Ruttan
