Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,

I am appealing to drop COMM 221 after the academic deadline due to due extenuating circumstances occurring on and after Sunday, April 3, 2021. On Sunday, April 3, 2021, there was a significant fire at my home which among other things destroyed my workspace, my class notes, and my laptop computer. The damage to my home also means my family and I will not be able to live in the house for at least the next six months as the damage is repaired. I am currently staying in a hotel with my family and have almost no ability to write exams in a private environment. Further to my last appeal, I am dropping COMM 221, as the final exam is worth a significant amount of the total course evaluation, and it is not a requirement for graduating from my undergraduate degree. Dropping the course now will allow me to focus my efforts on courses without final exams, and the psychology course that is required for me to graduate. I could not have anticipated this accident or the specific challenges it would impose on my studies before the academic drop deadline earlier this winter.
