Petition Letter

Petition Letter: I would like to request the late dropping of ECON 111. Since I started year one, I succeeded in coping with 4 courses per semester and achieved high grades (a GPA of 3.6,) yet, this semester, I wanted to challenge myself and take an extra course, expecting an improvement or even stability in my mental health condition, but it coincided with a period of higher frequency of depression, intense suicidality, and my entrance into many Mental health crisis.
The severe distress I experienced started in the month of December, but I managed to cope with the load of studies and started my work on the subjects adequately. However, it recurred by the beginning of February, then I was put on some medications that are classified as stabilizers to make me more controllable. Although, my mood lifted a bit up by the mid of February, this crisis kicked in again in mid-Feb and came to a peak in the middle of the semester/after the dropping deadline when it became difficult to continue completing my elective course (ECON 111) successfully. I was a bit hesitant to request a late drop at the beginning (as I'm a bit of a perfectionist who do not like withdrawing from courses that I have planned to take)but, after talking to my academic advisor at Queens, she was extremely concerned about my mental state after I made a small debriefing to her and this made me think about it again. At the end, I decided to put my mental health first this semester, not because of the trend going into our lives of mental health and self-love practices, but because I am collapsing and have really hard time to survive.
In addition to that, I have been overwhelmed by the load of my assignments and quizzes as well as the virtual learning system occurring during the pandemic.
In fact, all of these factors were enough to hinder my normal scholastic capacity at Queens' University.
