Petition Letter
Petition Letter: I am applying to drop my remaining courses because I was unable to complete and schoolwork since January 2021.
During the exam period of the 2020 fall term, my housemate sexually assaulted me. The following couple of months they continued to manipulate me, into thinking that I was responsible for this incident and that my emotions regarding the matter were invalid. Though my mental state was very low, with academic consideration I was able to complete all of my courses to an extent I was happy with.
Shortly after the event, my assaulter moved out of the house, and I started a deep depressive episode. All my other housemates had decided to stay home during the winter term, and I had very little support to help me with my mental health. I have been prescribed anti-depressant medication and reached out to Barb, the Queen's sexual violence prevention and response coordinator. Though I attempted to reach out for support, it did not allow me to complete any school work, and my mental health further deteriorated.
As my mental health continued to deteriorate, my ability to complete my required courseload decreased. In an attempt to lessen my workload I dropped two courses in hopes that I would be able to allocate that given time to catch up on the assignments I had missed, however with any significant thought of my academic life I would enter an extreme state of anxiety which forced me to stay in bed and further postpone my duties. Throughout the semester I have not received any messages concerning my performance from any professors or University faculties.
Currently, I have completed no major assignments and without any severe accommodations from my professors, it is impossible for me to pass any of my remaining courses. My intent is to drop my remaining courses so I can completely focus on therapy and finding the correct medication. My utmost priority is to continue my education in the next Fall term. I believe dropping these courses will help me in further academic studies as my GPA would not have dropped too severely.
I am able to further discuss my situation if it is desired.
Thank you for your attention.
