Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,

I am writing this letter to ask for an Aegrotat standing for my ENGL-200-700 course. My professor Dr. Ritchie has agreed to support this request due to exceptional circumstances from the pandemic.

In the past month, my son's father has been diagnosed with COVID-19 and was unfortunately admitted to the hospital. The stress of this has been very difficult for us. My son and I ended up sick as well with inconclusive test results for the full swab and positive on rapid tests. I submitted a consideration to the university with the supporting document of my doctor's note, which goes until April 29th, 2021 (my exam is scheduled for the 25th). I was still planning on writing my exam, as this is my final course and year to complete my degree and I frankly just want to get through it. Though, I am concerned about not feeling well for my exam as I still am feeling pretty drained and still having severe headaches quite often. I am also concerned about how well I will be able to succeed in the exam as I write it with my five-year son around, who is also not up to 100 health. I am a single mom and have no support during this time to help me with him while I write an exam. My son is also on the waitlist to finish his assessment for ADHD, and he is not great at sitting still or being quiet and needs basically constant supervision as he gets into a lot of things. I am worried he will need my attention for a large duration of the exam, and it will reflect in my output. Furthermore, I am an Event Coordinator and obviously with lockdowns and stay-at-home orders, several of my clients have had to reschedule their weddings. I am responsible for rebooking all vendors and replanning their weddings that were scheduled for April and May. These events will now take place in June and July, hopefully. I need to redo everything for these events in order to be compensated. This has increased my stress levels significantly and I need to keep these clients as clients in order to support my son financially. I apologize for all the piles of information; I hope you can understand my desire to go the AG route for my final exam with Queens. I have enjoyed my time and education here immensely and am thankful for my wonderful instructors and their support during the good and bad times these past four years.

I am really hoping you would consider granting this request so I can submit for graduation and focus on my son and my own recovery, his father's health, as he remains in the hospital, my son's now online schooling, and my work. I understand how vital examinations are and I respect the work Professor Ritchie has put into her lesson planning to prepare us for it, I am just unsure of my outcome from it and would hate to have to repeat an entire year because of repercussions from this pandemic. Thank you for taking the time to read this and I will await your reply for this consideration.

Kindest regards,

Jodi Huenemoeder
