I am appealing a late drop of the following courses: CLST 130 (Winter, 2021), CLST 103 (Winter, 2021), and ENGL 100 (Fall-Winter, 2020-2021).
I am currently diagnosed with Anxiety, and I am on medication for it (Fluoxetine). I have also always struggled with sensory, social, and attention issues. My sister was diagnosed this past year with ASD, and my parents have encouraged me to have an ASD assessment done myself, as I have many of the same struggles and issues that she does. I spoke with someone at the Queen's psychology clinic, and they did an assessment over the phone. They strongly felt that I would benefit from a thorough evaluation. At that time, I was put on a waitlist with Queen's psychology to have this official ASD assessment done, but due to Covid, this has not occurred yet.
My attention issues became more prominent late fall, along with some depressive episodes, making school work and assignments a huge struggle. I started not participating in group work or any of the assignments, and a number of things did not get handed in. I had several appointments with my family doctor at this time. She decided to assess for ADHD, given all the struggles I've had with attention, and it flagged as a high likelihood. My Dr was unable to get me into an ADHD specialist for many months for a proper assessment, so she and I decided to try one of the medications for ADHD (Concerta). At this time, my Dr filled out an Academic Accommodation form for me in the hopes that it would relieve some of the pressure I was under, and that was submitted to Queen's. Unfortunately, the medication made my Anxiety and depression a lot worse. All ability to perform school, and everyday functions, stopped. I have since been weaned off the Concerta for ADHD, and I now feel that I am in complete limbo. Due to my anxiety condition, I am not able to take the medication for ADHD, and due to the backlog, I am not able to get into speak with someone about alternative options.
