Petition Letter: Hello,
I am writing this appeal letter as after a year, I realized that it is in my best interest to drop my ENGL 200 course, with Ritchie. Although English is my major plan, because of my extenuating health issues, which include being sick for much of fall semester of 2020, difficulties adjusting to the pandemic circumstances while away from home, and then getting better starting in second semester, and through numerous consultation with the PROF, TA, the English Department Head, and the QSAS advisors Deb Bruce, Laurie Hooke, and Rina Gupta, it has been too difficult to complete coursework in that course and so we have come to decide that it is best for me to drop it and re-take it again, aand do an ENGLISH-PSYC Medial instead during my undergrad. Dr. Ritchie also told me that there is no point in writing the exam in a few weeks, because if I did manage to pass the course, I would not be eligible for upper-year English courses. Since ENGL 200 is a requirement for my major and to upgrade to third- and fourth-year courses, it is important for me to take time away from it now and do it again better now that I have gotten better in second semester health-wise. That is why I decided to appeal to drop and find alternatives, such as re-taking it later, re-adjusting my course schedule to meet degree requirements in the upcoming years, or even changing my major to make my circumstances smoother. Thank you for your valued time, and I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Sincerely,
Grace Chen
