Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Dear Art and Science office,
My name is Zihan Zhang and I am a second year biomedical computing student. I would like to apply to drop the course BCHM 218 for this winter term. The reasons come from two aspects: my personal and my family issues. My mental problems have recurred in these high pressure final weeks due to my grandmother was just diagnosed as suffering from terminal tongue cancer and my little brother was also diagnosed with acute asthma. This two weeks we were constant comings and goings to and from the hospital for my grandma, my brother and me. It is really hard especially during this COVID19 period. Recently I am taking a lot medicines for my recurred mental problems and recurred gynecological problems. I've thought to drop it before. Originally I was not good at this course, I worked hard and still received a bad grade. The urgent issues that arise and I really do not have the time to properly devote to this course. It is better for me to drop it for stuggling with my grade and my health problem. As for the penalty to the tuition fee, I totally accept it. I hope to be able to re-take the course and I will devote my time to it.
