Petition Letter
Petition Letter: I am appealing to change my ENIN 240 (Fall, 2020) grade to CR on my transcript.
During the Fall semester of 2020, I got a D+ in ENIN 240 which was due to unexpected circumstances. It was ¿¿ and still is, the lowest grade that I¿¿ve ever gotten by far. The main cause of it was because I missed an end-of-term survey, which was worth 20 of the final grade.
Around that time, I had learned that a lot of my relatives abroad, in Turkey, had gotten sick from Covid, some hospitalized. Most of the time I would be focused on whatever was most urgent, unable to plan anything concrete. This added stress made it hard to focus and manage my academics properly, which lead to me missing the end-of-year survey that was worth 20. I think I should receive a CR for this course because my low grade was caused by a one-time occurrence. The grade is clearly an outlier within my transcript, and it¿¿s not fair that should bring my GPA down.
Due to the difficulty of obtaining medical records abroad, especially from the overcrowded Turkish public health care system, I was unable to get any documents sent or translated. Instead, I have included a letter from my father to back up my claims, which he has read and signed.
Thank you for reading my request. In the future, I will make sure to stay on top of my academics by creating reminders for my examinations.
Thanks,
Ekim Karabey
