Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Dear Appeal Board,

I hope this reaches you at a good time. I recently took my economics exam for ECON 112 under professor Ian Cromb. Our class is unique because we have the access to view and interact with the final exam of another class, ECON 110B, which covers different material. The difference between the material is ECON 110B doesn¿¿t cover all the chapters from 112 (112 covers all of 110B + chapters 1-3 and 31).

On the day I took this exam I was extremely nervous and unfortunately clicked on the wrong exam, which was not the final exam for a class in which I was enrolled. Upon completion of this exam, I was immediately concerned as throughout the exam I had noticed a lack of chapter 1-3 material. On the exam page, it was impossible to see future questions other than the one you are on or which exam it is so I assumed that the 112 questions were later in the exam. Once I had completed the exam I knew it was the wrong one so I sent Dr. Cromb an email, I will supply his answer.

He told me that this was my fault and that I should have contacted him as soon as I saw a question that I did not recognize. I understand my responsibility as I should have been more careful, however, it would be impossible for me to see a question that would definitively tell me I was doing the wrong exam as 110B covers similar material.

The reason for my appeal is that I am in the middle of transferring to Dalhousie University and the outcome of this exam will have a large impact on which program I am accepted into. I feel as though my exam marks will have suffered as I was prepared to write 112. The time I had taken to study those extra chapters is time away from studying the rest of the material tested on 110B. I am concerned that the outcome of this exam will have a negative impact on my application yet I am still unsure how a student from one class has access to the final exam of another class which they are not a part of.

I really hope there is a way to come to a solution. I am open to any kind of retesting, however, Queens needs my grades by May 12 to send to Dalhousie.
