Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,

My name is Aidan Khoi and I am a fourth-year Global Development student. I am submitting an appeal applying for Aegrotat status in all of my remaining classes this year, and subsequently my university career.

The reason I am applying for AG status in the first place is because of the extenuating health circumstances I have been dealing with dating back to October of 2020. I tried my best to get all work I had been assigned completed at the time while also dealing with these health issues, but it became far too much for me to deal with. Although being diagnosed by a healthcare professional in October, it was not until January where the disease itself and my health really took a turn for the worst, and performing any daily function, school-related or not, became borderline impossible. Unfortunately, this has been the case ever since, and there is truly no end in sight. The side effects from the disease itself also take a significant toll on me, but this is not all that takes a toll on me. I take multiple prescriptions, all of which come with a long list of very dangerous and very possible side effects. The other thing with these prescriptions is that they take months to actually begin working, and even then they are not guaranteed to be effective, as it depends entirely on the person. Because of this, there is no timeline on when I can expect to start to feel better, as it could quite literally be years.

While I am aware that an appeal should normally include a plan for achieving academic success should it be granted, because of my particular situation there is not really much of a plan to be had as this is all that is stopping me from graduating. I am hoping that this, along with my strong academic history at the university as well as my supporting documentation all contributes to the approval of my appeal.
