Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Good day,

I am appealing to late drop the following courses from my transcript from the winter 2017 semester.

¿¿ HIST242
¿¿ HIST244
¿¿ HIST263
¿¿ STAT263

I am currently enrolled with QSAS as a student with a disability. During the Winter 2017 semester I experienced the following:

1. I was hospitalized on 4th February 2017 via an ambulance for a serious health crisis (see confidential documentation), and was forced to recover for 4 weeks after. This is relevant because this is after the 20th January 2017 drop date without financial penalty. There was an attempt to work hard to recover courses, however my health impeded that so I did not drop on the final 3 March 2017 drop date with financial penalty.

2. As a result of this health related circumstance and paired with another disability, I was ultimately at a disadvantage throughout the semester of Winter 2017 and ultimately failed all four courses. This was despite my best efforts to recover and liaise with my professors.

3. I was not registered with QSAS during this time for my disability, and was therefore at a disadvantage. This is relevant as I am currently registered with QSAS for my disability and have been able to obtain multiple final grades over 80 with a full course load (Fall 2020 and Winter 2021). This is empirical evidence that I have been able to succeed when provided the necessary support.

Impact and relevance: My cGPA is currently below the threshold to graduate directly due to these F grades received in 2017.

What I have done: I have completed, passed, and excelled at more than my program requirements, passing 96.0 credit points of the 90.0 of my program requirements, and have been disadvantaged as a result of these F grades. I have spent time conducting physical rehabilitation, have seen a clinical psychologist, have worked closely with Academic Advisor Spring Forsberg, Occupational Therapist Tess Grant, and more in order to advance my ability. As a result, I have received multiple grades this year over 80.

I am ultimately requesting to late-drop these previously mentioned courses that were offered to me during a health crisis that occurred after the drop date and before I was registered with QSAS for support and academic accommodations.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to me, Sean, at 15spk@queensu.ca or 4168970986 if you would like to speak further.
