Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,

I am appealing to the Faculty of Arts and Science for a request to regrade my final grade of a B+ in BMED 373 (Health Ethics, Law and Policy). The course format is as follows:

Blog Post 1: 15 weight (achieved 96)
Blog Post 2: 15 weight (achieved 94)
Blog 4: 15 weight (achieved 90)
Long Blog: 37.5 weight (achieved 95)
Active Course Engagement: 17.5 (0)

As you can see, the Active course engagement resulted in a lower grade than I had expected. I realized late that my submission of a self-assessment rubric did not work initially, and I therefore received a grade of zero. I attempted to submit this again, willing to accept a late policy. Ultimately, I do not feel that a grade of zero reflects my participation and engagement in this course, and I would like to request a regrade of this assignment.

The course faculty uses the self-assessment rubric in conjunction with information such as number of times logged on, whether students have clicked on different elements of the course, and number and list of posts submitted in each discussion form to evaluate the amount of engagement given by the student. I would like this information to be considered to allow my assignments grade to reflect my final grade. I understand that the late submission may result in consequences, however due to the technical glitch and the fact that my actual course engagement can be used to assess this, I would appreciate consideration for a regrade.

This is my last semester at Queen¿¿s and I am graduating with a major in Life Science¿¿s and a minor in Psychology. This grade change would help me significantly for future plans of graduate school. I have also never needed to submit an academic appeal and therefore hope you would consider this.
