Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: At the end of the fall term (December), I was living at home. My relationships with both parents got really toxic throughout this time. This was very stressful for me as the things they said would repeat in my head all day. At the same time, my cousin had an episode of psychosis which involved hurting his parents, running from police and hurting himself. At this point I started to struggle with low mood and depression. This kept me from completing my Fall Writing Assignment and case study (DEVS100). I shortly moved back to my two person apartment in Kingston where i was alone for the rest of the school year other than my roommate coming back on two separate weeks. In this time my depression got much worse with negative/suicidal thoughts running through my head nonstop. This was one of the lowest points of my life with me completing almost no work for any course. During this time I set up to meet with a mental health specialist provided by queens (February). I am still meeting with this specialist. As these months went on, I became very behind in all my courses. My depression left me with zero motivation during this time and made it feel impossible for me to do things as simple as getting out of bed. I did what I could with the help of the mental health professional I had been meeting with to get accommodations for on outstanding work (Research Proposal, Final Paper) and even tried meeting with a tutor. In spite of this effort, the mental state i was in was keeping me from getting started and completing this work that i was so behind on.
