Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: My name is Naureen Fariza, and my student ID is 20110601. I am writing to request a withdrawal from the ASTR101 course without academic penalty due to extenuating circumstances. My grades in that course just before the final exam were excellent; however, around 2 weeks prior to writing the final exam, my parents, as well as my in-laws became ill with Covid-19. My father-in-law was hospitalized on the 5th of April, 2021, and my mother was hospitalized on the 10th of April, 2021. When my mother was hospitalized in Bangladesh, there was a shortage of oxygen in the whole country as well. I was under extreme financial and mental stress during that time period. One of the requisites to pass the course is to pass the final exam, which I couldn't accomplish due to the extreme mental stress I was experiencing during this ordeal. The final exam occurred on the 16th of April 2021. I did contact the course instructor, Professor David Hanes, and he recommended that I get in touch with Student Services in order to initiate the request to withdraw from the course without academic penalty. I will be attaching the hospitalisation paperwork, which reflects the ordeal chronologically for your reference.

I also had taken 2 other courses this past semester, and they were impacted minimally due to this ordeal because they ended much earlier in comparison to ASTR 101. Had this unforeseen event not occurred in my life, or the timing of it was different, I believe that I would've performed much better.
