Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean (Academic),

I am appealing to drop PHIL 260 with Professor Nancy Salay.

I took this class as an elective to prepare myself for future studies, such as Grad studies and the LSAT. Prior to enrolling in this class, I understood the difficulty and time commitment the would be required to be successful in the class. The first few weeks of the course were going as planned and PHIL 260 Introduction to Logic was my favourite subject at the time. Despite my interest in the class, my condition prevented me from meeting deadlines and participating in /attending class. This condition negatively impacted my academic performance in all my classes, but especially PHIL 260 in particular since my four other classes were required to major in economics. It is not to say that I willingly fell behind in this class because I lost interest, but rather a health condition hindered my ability to meet deadlines. During the month of March, my focus was not on academics or managing my course load. Instead, it was on trying to control my condition by receiving help from a personal counsellor through Queen¿¿s Student Wellness Services and consulting doctor to give me an official diagnosis. Although this condition is ongoing, I was able to make arrangements with the professors of my other classes and had some of my final exams deferred. Moving forward, I am frequently meeting with counsellors and doctors to work towards improving my condition and I am hoping to be able to have a full course load come Fall 2021. In the meantime, I am enrolling in Summer-term courses in attempt to lighten my future course load in case this condition proves to be more long-term than anticipated.

Please see the attached appeal documentation from Student Wellness Services.

Best,

Josh Deller-Hadzi
