Petition Letter: Appeal Letter
My name is Sihui LIU. I am appealing to drop LING 210 and GRMN 102 (Summer, 2021).
I had chosen these two courses in the summer term. However, because of some personal stuff, I have to drop those courses to stop having summer term. Remote learning and having twelve-hour jet lag have caused some physical and mental problems on me. The all-night classes and studies made me tired. I have fainted several times in this whole year because of overwork and low blood sugar. At the same time, as a freshman, the inconvenience brought by online courses and being new to college courses have caused me great pressure. The language barrier, the difficulty of communication and other problems also affect me. It's been going on all year. After summer term started last week, more obvious symptoms emerged: my memory began to deteriorate, I had frequent headaches and insomnia, and my menstrual cycle was out of order. I had a physical examination at the weekend, and the result showed that it was really due to irregular work and rest and tiredness for a long time. The headache made me unable to concentrate on the content of the class. But my mental pressure caused me to force myself to concentrate. It was exhausting. I became very vulnerable to breakdown, anxiety filled me and made me cry very easily. I plan to arrive in Kingston in August. I think I need to give up the summer term to give myself some time off. I don't want this to affect my next semester and my life in Kingston. I will have a regular physical examination and exercise. Maybe at the same time, I can find some interesting things to enrich myself, so that I won't be trapped in too much pressure and negative emotions. I can probably find a part-time job to develop more social and working skills.
Due to these reasons, I have to drop the courses to have some time for resting and being prepared to get to Kingston and behave well in next term. I have hesitated for a long time. I once planned to stick to my courses, but my body does not allow it.
I plan to take those courses in next Fall and Winter term.
