Petition Letter: To Whom It May Concern,
I am a fourth-year engineering student on track to graduate this spring. I made the recent decision to attempt to repair my GPA through retaking STAM 200 this summer and postponing my graduation until the fall in order to do so. Through writing this letter, I am hoping to appeal the course add deadline and obtain permission to join the class. I have already contacted the instructor and he is willing to allow me to join the class should I be granted permission from the university.
My reason for the delayed decision to add the class was that I was waiting for my final grades to be released, which did not occur until the final day (May 12th). The course add deadline was two days following this and during this time I was suffering from a very severe flare up of endometriosis (a pre-existing medical condition which causes severe abdominal pain for which I need to take strong pain medications). Due to experiencing this pain and being on the medication I was unable to carefully consider and come to a well-informed decision about the consequences and benefits of postponing my graduation until the fall. As a result, I had to wait to feel better to reach a decision and unfortunately this occurred beyond the drop deadline. I have supporting documentation confirming my condition from my physician if required.
Kind Regards,
Charley McCann
