Dear Associate Deans,
I am appealing to drop ARTH293 (Winter, 2021), ARTH215 (Winter, 2021) and ARTH248 (Winter, 2021) due to an acute physical illness.
I took my fall term off in order to cope with the overwhelming anxiety this uncertain disease had caused. On December 2nd, 2020, I had my surgery done which required a healing process of two to three months. During this time period, I was having difficulty completing school tasks with limited mobility. I didn¿¿t drop my courses earlier because I underestimated the longevity of the recovery and the severity of discomfort my incision would cause. Since I lived alone away from home, it was much more time-consuming and inconvenient to take care of myself than I imagined. Eventually, I realized it was impossible for me to focus on studying before I was fully recovered.
I have an appointment for a physical examination in August when I would get to know if there is any further procedure. I would definitely communicate with my doctor and register for Academic Accommodation with QSAS if needed.
Thank you for your time reading this letter.
Sincerely,
Wanyi Pei (20030345)

Appeal Letter
Appeal Letter: Dear Board of Studies,
I am appealing the Associate Dean??s decision to deny my appeal to drop ARTH293 (Winter, 2021), ARTH215 (Winter, 2021), ARTH248 (Winter, 2021) after the academic deadline.
My appeal was denied because the documentation I provided did not indicate clearly the timeline or the severity of my extenuating circumstances. The Verification of Health form was filled by my surgeon Dr. Agrawal on February 9, 2021, when we had our first follow-up appointment. However, my incision wasn??t healing well due to my inexperience in post-operative care, and it required a longer than expected time to recover fully. On a second revisit to Dr. Agrawal, she suggested that my wound might have an infection if I continuously irritated it. Therefore, I decided to drop all my courses so that I could spend enough time taking care of myself. I was having difficulty coping with the inconvenience of not being able to walk or sit until the end of the term. In addition, I realized I wasn??t resting enough under the pressure of studying and I couldn't finish the final exams to pass my courses under my health condition.
I had a physical examination with Dr. Agrawal in August, and the result came back great. My incision was completely healed. I am retaking these courses in the fall term, and I believe I could perform much better now that I am in healthy physical form. I now also have monthly appointments with her to determine if I need additional help from Student Wellness Services.
Thank you for your time reading this letter.
Sincerely,
Wanyi Pei (20030345)
