Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,
I am applying for this appeal due to the extenuating circumstances that the COVID-19 pandemic has placed me under. Due to the isolating nature of the pandemic and the resulting impact that it has had on my mental health, I have been forced to make the decision to move home to Toronto for the 2021/2022 academic year.
In order to complete my degree, I still need to complete 18.0 units from HIST 333/4.5 - 499/4.5, along with 9.0 units from GNDS; GNDS_Options, and 3.0 units of electives. I have been in contact with ASC Academic Advising and they have informed me that the 9.0 GNDS units and 3.0 units of electives would be able to be completed through Queen's Arts & Science online courses, but that the 18.0 HIST 333/4.5-499/4.5 are typically only offered in person. Since I will not be physically present in Kingston during the upcoming school year, I would be unable to complete these mandatory upper-year History seminar courses to fulfill my degree and that is why I am applying for this appeal.
I have been in contact with the York University history department and they have informed me that I will be able to complete these 18.0 units through their school on a letter of permission from Queen's. My plan is to take HIST 4765 (Rethinking Gender in East Asian History), HIST 4830 (In Slavery & Freedom: Blacks in the Americas), and HIST 4508 (Cultures & Colonialism: Canada, 1600-1900). These are full-year courses that would give me 6.0 units each, totaling the 18.0 HIST 333/4.4-499/4.5 units that I need to fulfill my history degree with Queen's.
In my contact with Elizabeth Russell from the ASC Letter of Permission department, she asked me to indicate whether or not I had received special permission from the Queen's History Department yet. I have not acquired that permission yet, but I have been in contact with them and they indicated that I needed to have the approved letter of permission first in order to apply for that. I can reach out to the department as needed in order to progress this appeal and application.

If my appeal is granted, my plan for achieving academic success is as follows;
1. Apply to York University as a visiting student on a letter of permission for the 2021/2022 academic year.
2. Enroll in the courses outlined above, which will give me the 18.0 units from HIST 333/4.5 - 499/4.5 that I would need to complete my degree through Queen's.
3. Enroll in 9.0 units of GNDS; GNDS_Options and 3.0 units of electives through Queen's Arts & Science undergraduate online.
4. Work closely with the York University & Queen's University academic advising departments in order to ensure academic compatibility and validity in the upcoming school year.
5. Complete all of my courses with success and good grades.
6. Graduate from Queen's University in 2022.
Should my appeal be granted, I will work diligently to follow these steps and achieve academic success.
