Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: To the Associate Dean (Studies),

I would like for formally request to drop a course after the academic deadline for chemistry 282 (winter 2014), and to receive a credit standing (CR) for physics 106 (fall 2013/winter 2014) class. During the winter semester of 2014, I had extenuating medical circumstances that affected my academic performance.

I was in treatment from early January to the end of the summer 2014 prior to my enrolment in fall term. I have provided documentation that I was in treatment and counselling during the summer and focussed my energy on getting back to good health prior to classes beginning in September. The documentation from my counsellor speaks to care during that time and that it continued for the entire summer. I was in a significant depression with suicidal ideologies during this period.

I also understand that students are expected to be aware of the academic regulations and seek information concerning academic issues in a timely manner, however, as I have asserted, my health had to be a priority. I have recovered sufficiently to maintain a 3.87 GPA during the fall of 2014.

I will have met my degree requirements by May 2015 and the granting of this appeal would allow my transcript to reflect my true academic ability when not compromised by significant medical circumstances.
