Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I would like to appeal for a late drop in my GNDS 125, PHIL 157 & ASTR 101 (1st semester) courses. I struggled this past year with my focus, organization and ability to begin a task. I was overwhelmed with the workload and did not know where to begin. I was recently diagnosed with ADHD after struggling with my ability to focus and work on my academics. This past year I was also dealing with a family situation, my grandma was in the hospital and that was a very scary situation for me. We are very close and I was afraid of losing her (she was ill during first semester). During the winter semester, I started to meet with a mental health counsellor to help me deal with my family situation and my lack of ability to focus in school. After speaking with them, we were able to get the testing process started and find out this diagnosis. I have been able to get the help I needed to start to build up the skills necessary to succeed. I will continue to meet with my counsellor for support and I am working with the athletic department for my academic support. I have been able to organize myself when it comes to my academics. I am confident that with the support systems in place and the medication that i can be successful at university and being able to drop the classes will allow for a fresh start.
