Appeal Letter
Dear Jenn Stephenson Ph.D. Associate Dean (Studies),
I am writing this letter of dear significance to you to waive the requirement for me to withdraw from Queens University for a minimum of 1 Year (Twelve Months). With this intention, to formally introduce myself, I am a second year Arts and Science Student whom is aiming towards specializing in English Studies with a minor in Health Studies. Moreover, I successfully have been improving in my studies, since my prior flare up in respects to my previous battle with mental health in my First Year at Queen¿¿s University (2018/2019). The year following was not easy due to the the COVID-19 Pandemic, however I have continued following through with coping strategies for my Academics, as well as Personal and Mental Health. To specify, taking courses I know I excel in, such as social studies, exercise and health, and last but not least, counselling for personal issues, through online support chats, and have not only tackled my mental illness, but am improving continuously which is demanding, and requires patience, strategic planning and diligence, but with my dedication to graduating at Queens University in the next max. 3 years, I will always do what is necessary for the sake of my Academics.
This Academic Year, I took three steady courses in the Winter Term, HLTH120, WRIT125 and GNDS120 in the Winter Term consisting of three subject areas I naturally excel in and do not pose difficulty in such as core sciences and maths. Furthermore, I qualify for specialized Year 2 and shortly, Year 3 courses however, I am taking cautious baby steps to ensure I excel, as I value being able to walk, before I can run. In the first month, and a half, From February 2021 to March, 2021 I found the courses extremely manageable, and completed 80 of all term work. I was truly on the verge of completing a successful Academic Year until I received a phone call from a close relative about a dear and extremely loved family member, of old age, with a serious genetic condition affecting the heart who was extremely near to death, in which my colleague and housemate at the time, noticed the rapid changes in me. Furthermore, I continued completing assessments, and requesting extensions, however, the sickness in my family lead me to feel hopeless, and depressed. I was able to work, with 80 of term work completed, receiving an incomplete in GNDS120 but not the remaining courses due to not having submitted enough work after the specified timeline. In consequence, my organization, awareness and overall efficiency of my Academics, specifically submitting assignments became significantly imp. Now, I have tackled mental illnesses; Borderline Personality Disorder and Anxiety Disorder/s, but this crisis instilled a situational depression from March to May 2021 in which made me lose sight of my goals, albeit still working, I felt an insecurity in myself, as well as appetite changes and sleeping problems etc. To specify, it was not that I failed to work, with almost meeting the requirements of an incomplete in my remaining course/s and the opportunity to complete my work over the summer term, understandably, as the near death of a loved one, whom was like a father to me, made me lose more my potential and motivation as a University Student including being efficient in submitting work, and being timely, as well as confidence. I even had brief periods of suicidal thoughts, this all made my future feel dim, and made me lose sight of my goals, and even in relationships with friends. Thus, at the end of the timeline of April/May the situation had not improved. Thus, this follows into my future plan.

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: Thus, I decided to move back home to be with the loved one, as the root cause of the suffering I experienced, was due to in case of death, (in which confirmed they will still be living for years ahead) luckily, so the death, expected for the far future, will not be a grey area that will affect my academics) I have moved back to my hometown to be near to the relative, and plan on taking online courses. Moreover, as Academic issues were not the problem, as I was genuinely taking courses I excel in and felt confident in, and if not for this deadly situation, in my family, with my grandfather near to death, I would have submitted my work and been successful.
Furthermore, other then the decision to study remotely with my loved one near, I decided to not only continue my lifestyle habits which helped me to recover from my past mental illness such as dance, nutrition and therapy, but have looked into finding a family counsellor by July so I have a contact to talk about this recent crisis with, as well as strategies, on if a crisis happens, how to manage academics and relationships, which is extremely difficult, which I have improved in, but it sometimes takes a bit more time to develop. I am confident, and know albeit the situation being completely a personal crisis and not related to my academics, with most of the course content with me, in which I confidently aimed for a B+, in areas I excel in, such as Writing, the counsellor will help me, into the 2021/2022 term, to communicate about my loved one. Although I am alright now, and am looking into taking a summer term course, this June/August. I need to be prepared, even though it was a situation crisis that only impacted me while it was going on from primarily March 2021 to Mid May 2021. Lastly, I intend on retaking WRIT120 & HLTH120 to complete what I started, and which I will excel in as a fact, as I have already studied most of the contact, and have notes to reference.
