Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,
I am appealing to drop PHYS 118 (Fall, 2020 and Winter 2021). I tore my ACL at the end of March, and because of that, I had doctor's appointments and physiotherapy twice a week throughout April and May. I could not spend enough time studying for my exam as I live in a rural town, and my appointments were a two-hour drive away. I am an active person, and this injury caused me to become bedridden, leading to the decline of my mental health. My therapist and I created a plan to help with my mental health issues, and I will continue to follow it well after my surgery. I only want to drop this class because, to pass this class, I needed to get a specific grade on the final. This semester's grades improved significantly from the last, but I needed to do well on my final to get a passing grade in the class. My injury prevented me from doing the best that I could have done in this course. I didn't drop this class after the fall semester because I had found ways of studying that worked for me, and my grades had improved. I have a tentative surgery date at the end of June, but I will continue to go to rehab throughout the next school year. When school starts again, I should be well on my way to recovery. I believe that I will manage my course load and rehabilitation in the coming school year. I plan on retaking the course in the upcoming fall semester. The classes will be in person, and I believe that will help me succeed in this course. I am also taking an elective course this summer to ensure that I stay on track to graduate with four years.
