Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To The Associate Dean (Studies):
I am writing this letter in hopes of receiving an extension of an incomplete grade in a class (BIOL307). In February 2020, I participated in a field course in Brazil with Dr. Stephen Lougheed. The course was incredible and was by far the best thing that I had done while in my upper years at Queen¿¿s. This was especially true due to the fact that the COVID-19 pandemic started to shut down the world just as we returned from the course.

With classes transitioning to online and everything that was going on, I found myself struggling to stay on top of everything required for my classes resulting in the final report for the field course being pushed aside for the time being. As the months went on, I found the report to be an extreme stressor on me, and over the months following, it began to really weigh on me. The longer it went on, the worse I felt about not completing it, which made me not do it, and the cycle has continued over and over again, month over month. Honestly, I had not been in the greatest headspace to have completed it, but given the amount of time that has passed, it should have been completed earlier; I take full responsibility for that. In December 2020, I started therapy and was able to submit my final report in January 2021. I couldn¿¿t have the report weighing on me anymore and needed to finish it, not just for the credit but also for myself.

All of the coursework for the class has been completed, and Dr. Lougheed has a final grade ready for me; however, it is not able to be inputted as more than one term has passed since the course. Dr. Lougheed was the one that made me aware that this appeal was a possibility and fully supports it. This trip was one of my most favourite memories over my university career, and I didn¿¿t want to graduate knowing that it ended this way. I hope you can understand, and I hope there is some way you are able to help in any way you can.

Thank you,
Alex Cameron
