Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To Whom It May Concern:

I am writing this appeal letter to request that the course PHAR 100 held within the winter semester of 2021 be dropped from my transcript.

Due to extenuating circumstances beyond my control I was unable to perform at the academic level that I am capable of. After years of battling an eating disorder on December 26th, 2020 I underwent a weight loss surgery in Antalya, Turkey. I was provided with a full hospital report that you will find attached. While I recognized the difficulty of the recovery, I simply did not comprehend how much of a toll it would take on my body. From January, 2021-March 1st, 2021, I was hospitalized multiple times due to several post-surgical issues. My food intake drastically effected my abilities as I was having an extremely difficult time putting enough nutrients in my body to function. Despite the circumstances I took the initiative to contact my professors to extend deadlines and accommodate my illness.

However, on February 8th, 2021 my grandmother passed away from COVID-19 and two weeks later on February 20th, 2021 my mother broke her leg. With a single mother it became my sole responsibility to care for my sisters, as she was on bed rest for six weeks. With little time to grieve or process. I reached out to the accommodation centre at queens and received accommodation for extenuating circumstances. I used this opportunity to complete my assignments and study for my tests. On April 2nd, 2021 my uncle residing in London, England underwent a liver transplant. My aunt who worked a full time job out of the country, needed me to come over and help with the kids, with my mother¿¿s recovery underway I took both my sisters and traveled to London as my aunt had no other option. In spite of all this, I put in all my effort to pull through in my academic and personal life. Yet, I was still not able to perform at the academic level required for a passing grade in PHAR 100.

It is due to a multitude of strenuous events that were completely out my control that resulted in a failure on my transcript. It is without a doubt that this year has been one of the most difficult for both my mental and physical health. With hopes in furthering my education, a failure would greatly affect my chances of being accepted. I have worked hard during my studies at the University and plan to take a fall course to replace the one I am hoping you will let me drop.

I will be happy to answer any questions you might have. Thank you for taking time to review
my request.

Sincerely,

Zunaira Sahi
