Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Dear Sir or Madame,
Hello. I am Nianhao Li, ST 20211948. I am appealing the faculty¿¿s decision that I must withdraw from Queen¿¿s for a minimum of one years. In the past year, also my first year in university, because of some frustrating reasons, I have to study online at home. I was studying from overseas, in my first semester, due to some technical reasons, I couldn't browse some recorded teaching videos without a good VPN. It happened all of a sudden, and I didn't know who to look for to help me. Because of the time difference, the professors' office time is very embarrassing to me, also because communication only depends on email, I don't think professors can help me with technical problems.

I was a QBridge student at Queen¿¿s and English is my second language, because of online class, I seldom use English in my daily life. Without anyone's guidance, it is difficult for me to find effective help on the school website, I didn't even know in the first semester that classes could be dropped normally. I feel overwhelm in my first semester because no one contacted me except the regular homework email. No one can communicate with me, and I can't get any useful information, which makes me feel very depressed. In the second semester, I solved the problem of VPN, I can browse the video normally, but because the course I chose is a whole year course, I still can't catch up.

At the same time, due to the low GPA in the first semester, I received an email about whether I need academic help. I applied for help, got a weekly video conference, and got information about passhelp. I asked the passhelp if I could take the same course again if I think my course is poor or failed. When I got a positive answer, I thought I could give up the second semester and try my best to do it again next semester. However, it was in the middle of the second semester, I had passed the time to drop my course. Until then, I didn't know the consequences of low GPA. I thought these can be fixed in the next semester. But I'm totally wrong. I don't understand these things.

In this summer vacation, after a year of confusion, with the help of advisor, when I choose some course, I do much better than before because of there is no internet problem. I can restart my study in this summer vacation, and I really want to go campus to continue my study in this year and I do not want to withdraw for one year. I hope to rebuild my course in next semester and I will get help from the academic advisor to set a plan about what course should I take and what do I need to achieve. I will take a reduced course load if I face problem and will follow up with an Academic Advisor if I have problems. For me, in this summer vacation, everything is getting better, I sincerely hope to come to the beautiful campus next semester to continue my studies.
