Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,
I write to appeal the following courses; to drop both CHEM 313 and PHYS 118 and receive the credit for CHEM 414 but drop the mark.
I came home to Halifax just over a year ago after the first lockdown for what I thought was going to be about two weeks and haven¿¿t been able to get back since, locked down in my parent's basement I have ADHD and am in the QSAS (accommodation) program. I just physically & mentally can¿¿t do my courses online. I have learned that I really need the structure and support I had when I was there in person.
I was recruited to Queen¿¿s by the Varsity football team. I was looking forward to my 5th and final year on the team and in the classrooms. Since this pandemic, this has all been taken away from me. I lost my last year of football, my friends, my social life, my girlfriend¿ Everything I just couldn't manage to do it from home. I did significantly worse in all of my courses when compared to previous years. I was going to do the CHEM (HONS) program, but when I realized I couldn¿¿t concentrate online, I decided to just get a general chemistry degree and maybe continue post-grad studies, post-pandemic. I did reasonably well in my previous chemistry courses especially given the demands of Varsity Athletics and the chemistry program. I even took a summer job 2 years ago in the Queen¿¿s Chemistry lab and presented a ¿poster' at the International Conference on Analytical Sciences and Spectroscopy (ICASS) in Montreal under the guidance of Professor Beauchemin. I¿¿m capable, but my disability coupled with everything going on with COVID now makes online learning virtually impossible. When I was there in person I didn¿¿t even study at home; I always went to the library to study after football practice. I needed that structure and routine.
I am retaking the required PHYS 118 course right now, the last credits I need in order to graduate with a general chemistry degree. I just really need to drop CHEM 313, PHYS 118, and drop the mark but keep the credit for CHEM 414 which I barely passed.
Thanks for your attention, your help would be greatly appreciated.
I hope to hear back from you very soon.
