Petition Letter: Hello,
I am appealing to drop my IDIS 304 summer course after the drop date.
On May 15th I was affected by a fairly severe medical illness. I was able to attend class sparsely and was able to keep up with my readings and coursework at the time. I kept in regular contact with my professor to ensure I was staying caught up. Unfortunately, my condition worsened and despite my best efforts I was unable to complete my coursework. I had hoped that my condition would eventually improve, and I really enjoyed the course and professor, so I did not drop the class at the deadline. This was not the case however, and my professor and I agreed that it would be best for me to drop the course as I would likely be unable to complete my assignments.
My illness prevented me from being able attend most of my classes and made completing my assignments challenging. I had dropped my other class over the summer semester before the drop date as I thought that perhaps I could complete this course alone.
I am still being affected by my illness today and am taking further steps to recover before the fall semester. I met with my doctor, who supplied my supporting documentation, and am having tests conducted regarding my illness. I am also planning to meet with counselor once I am approved through my family¿¿s health care plan.
I was overly optimistic with my condition and should have dropped the course earlier on in the semester and going forward with my academic career I will try to be more realistic with myself if I am still affected by my illness in the fall.
Thank you for your consideration in this matter and please contact me if you require any further information.
