Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,

My name is Sitara Raju, I have just completed my first year at university and I am looking for an academic appeal.

Simply put, online school was a struggle for me. I finished high school early so I never had a chance to experience online learning before starting university, and I was not prepared for how disconnected and isolated it would make me feel. I was also on neurological medication for a part of my time at Queen's which led to mental fogginess and confusion, which amplified my negative feelings.

In reference to my documentation, my in course grades were fairly satisfactory during first semester with the exception of ECON 110. As time wore on and second semester came around, I started to wear down significantly and became unable to submit my work.

Unfortunately during this time I couldn't bring myself to see the status of my grades and I did not receive check in from any of my teachers. While I didn't expect them too; it was my first year in university and the lack of feedback lead me to believe that I was doing alright. I wrote a couple of my teachers emails explaining my circumstances before my final exams and I only received a response from one.

Communicating via email and phone calls isn't a method of learning that works for me. I don't feel like I knew my instructors at all, and maybe if I did I would have been comfortable to seek advice from them when things started looking down.

After my first year, I have an understanding of how online school works and I know I have do better in the following years to come. I need to work harder in order to get the support I need, and I hope that next year I will be able to create an environment in which I don't feel so alone in my academics.

My final grades don't reflect who I am or who I want to be as a student. I have the desire and drive to do well, and I am writing this appeal letter because I want a stronger base to build from next year and turn my experience and opinions of secondary education around.

Thank you so much for your time and consideration,

Sitara Raju
