Petition Letter
Petition Letter: The School in Cortona is a small school within Tuscany, Italy, and is run by the University of Alberta. It is integrated within the community and the 40 students that attend the school are known for forming good relations with local people and shop owners within close proximity to the university. This unique study opportunity will benefit me both personally and academically.
Personally, I am excited to be inspired by a new culture and I want to take the time to explore the different types of people and societies across the world and learn about the diverse ways to make the most of my life. I have traveled to parts of Europe before, and thus I have somewhat of an idea as to what to expect when I arrive at our meeting place in Rome and meet my new classmates/ roommates. However I have never visited Italy and I am enthusiastic about taking the risk of trying something completely new and growing not only as a scholar but also on a more personal level, as a young adult.
Academically, I have researched the courses available to me at the School in Cortona and the options are all very interesting. The courses offered include field trips to the sites that we will be learning about, such as an Art History course as well as a class on Archeology, in which we travel to historical Roman cities to study the architecture, first-hand. I am looking forward to actually seeing the buildings and art work in real life, that I only saw pictures of in lecture last year during ARTH 120. I learn best in intimate, hands on learning environments and it appears that this study abroad program will provide me with exactly that, as well as after speaking with Dr. Martin Hand and my Academic Advisor, I am confident in the fact that while studying abroad I will, in no way, be jeopardizing my academic success as a Queen¿¿s student, which, of course, is my top priority. I look forward to coming back to Queen¿¿s in my fourth year with new insights to contribute to my studies.
Thank you for considering my application to participate in this one of a kind learning experience. I am so grateful that Queen¿¿s University values international study options for their students.

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: To ensure that my future plan will support my academic goals as a Sociology major, I will satisfy 15.0 SOCY units in my Fall 2015 term at Queen¿¿s University and while studying on a LOP I will satisfy 12.0 elective units.
To make room for the extra electives, I will drop my GNDS minor and in 3rd and 4rth year I will ensure to satisfy the remaining mandatory 18.0 units in SOCY.
I understand that I need 114.0 units to graduate, 60.0 from SOCY and 54.0 from electives. Therefore, I plan to pick up a summer online course during the summer 2015 term so that I can have less courses during my fourth year.
