Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I am appealing to drop the course GPHY 336 after the deadline on June 4th without receiving academic penalty.
My close cousin who was visiting me and traveling in my city has been badly sick since late May for acute tracheitis and her chronic pharyngitis. I was taking care of her since then and stayed with her while she was hospitalized for about a week in late May to early June. As such, I was not able to concentrate on academic workload. Unfortunately, the week that was the busiest in this course was the week my cousin began to be caught with her illnesses. In week 3, I did not meet the deadline of the Week 3 Discussion Post and later realized that I underperformed in the assignment HBE Disparities Audit of this course.
I believed I could perform somewhat better to bounce back in this course at the time, thus did not drop the course before the deadline when I saw I missed the deadline on May 28th. The feedback of the assignment HBE Disparities Audit did not appear to us until June 11th, which was already a week later than the deadline on June 4th. I was still busy running around the hospital and taking my cousin to her counsellor at the time and did not see my grade until about a week later on June 17th. The fact that my grade on the assignment HBE Disparities Audit was 44 largely discouraging and was overwhelming to me when I was still busy in the hospital.
After seeing my grade of the assignment HBE Disparities Audit, the rest of this course had been pretty much painful. I was having arguments with my parents for this problem since then, which has further discouraged my motivation of working on this course. Luckily, I have completed most workloads of other courses prior to that.
I believe at this point I cannot continue to work on the term paper of this course. I would like to drop this course GPHY 336. Please let me know if any further processes are required.
