Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean (Academic),
I am submitting an appeal to drop course INTS 306 (Summer, 2021) after the academic deadline. Unfortunately, I contracted Covid-19 in May (tested positive May 20, 2021) and my symptoms only worsened throughout May and June. This circumstance was beyond my control and made it extremely difficult for me to participate in the course. My symptoms became severe at the beginning of June, and I struggled with my health until June 21, 2021. I did my best to stay in touch with my professor throughout this time, letting him know my health status. I am currently taking two other courses, which I was able to manage only because they have asynchronous models and put less pressure on me to adhere to tight deadlines. INTS is a 6-week, synchronous course that moves at an accelerated pace, and required me to participate in weekly seminars. My illness had a much more significant effect on my ability to keep up in INTS 306. I am currently much healthier now, and excited to continue with my degree plan.
I appreciate your support,
Colleen Carolan-Laing.
