Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Dear Associate Deans of Arts and Science

I am writing this letter to appeal the deadline in regards to withdrawing from a 6.0 unit in the spring 2021 summer session. I had previously missed the deadline on July, 2, 2021 to drop a summer course and for this reason, I would like to move forward with a request to appeal the dropping of World Relgions/Relgious Worlds (RELS 131).

As a result of my appeal for World Relgions - Relgious Words course, I have the responsibility of supporting myself financially, in which has led to an increase in work hours over the summer period. Being financially independent has required me to work extensive hours across the GTA, along with various cities across Ontario. Having the responsibility to pay for my living and tuition expenses, I was motivated to accept full time summer employment in support of my academic goals. Due to an intensified work schedule within the past summer month, this has greatly contributed to heightened levels of academic difficulty, from the reduced time I was able to devote to complete RELS 131.

Furthermore, I accept full responsibility for my academic performance in this summer's 2021 summer semester. Working extensive hours this summer, implicated my judgement to resolve this issue prior to the course drop deadline. Consequently, as my job required a broad amount of out of town travel, this has severely increased many stressors in academically succeeding in RELS 131. Conversely, this past year I was able to successfully complete my first year of undergraduate studies, together with managing varsity athletics within my weekly schedule.

As a conclusion, carrying out an immense work schedule travelling outside of the GTA, has prevented me from meeting the course drop date. I take full responsibility for my inability to drop course RELS 131 prior to the course drop deadline. From this challenging period, I have decided to enroll in a time management workshop to develop life skills to be successful moving forward within my undergraduate studies. I would like to express my gratitude for the opportunity to express my personal circumstances.

Sincerely,
Joshua McBain
