Petition Letter

Petition Letter: My name is Lois Ifekwe, and I am appealing to drop 3 courses from my 2021 Winter semester. The courses in question are FILM 236, SOCY 476, and GNDS 380.
During the last year, I have been faced with personal hurdles that would intensify as covid restrictions fluctuated, and resources available became emergency-only. As such, in dealing with an overwhelming period of change, my academic performance has been negatively impacted - something I thought I would be able to control once I gathered myself together, but I have since learned that life is not always so neat.
In March of this year, I was diagnosed with Anxiety Disorder and prescribed medication which has been a learning curve of its own. From insomnia to depressive episodes, my transition has been far from an easy one, so it has been increasingly difficult for me to even focus on schoolwork. It was also around this time that we were awaiting the George Floyd trial results as well as news of the tragic riots in Nigeria, my home country, which saw a racially inclined socio-political upheaval.
Due to ongoing extenuating circumstances, I also did not have a home all through May. My friends and I planned to stay in a house but it was unlivable due to a mould infestation, which meant we were couch-hopping to put a roof over our head, and sleep and internet were not always guaranteed. Thus, even though my professors provided accommodations, there was absolutely no way to balance everything I had going on.
As a result, I chose to switch my degrees in the middle of May, from a BAH- Bachelor of Arts (Honours) to a BA Bachelor of Arts and graduated with more than enough credits to spare. I would like to put an end to the added stress of school. Since I have graduated, I am appealing to drop my courses because I have no use for them it has been a balancing act that did not tip in my favour. I really appreciate your understanding and leniency in this matter.
I look forward to hearing from you.
