Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To Associate Dean of Studies,

I am requesting to apply for Aegrotat Status for HIST 286.

I was unable to complete the course because I received a concussion in October during a Queen's Women's rugby game which has effected my academic abilities. I have had a number of previous concussions, which has effected the symptoms and recovery time. Currently I am suffering from post-concussion syndrome, which is very common for someone in my position with a history of concussions.
Last semester I was enrolled in 18 units, as well as 18 units this semester, making it very difficult to finish my classes with a injury that has effected my academic abilities. Nonetheless I have completed all of my classes except for HIST 286, in which I still have an outstanding paper worth 25. I have attempted to complete the paper, however requires a heavy amount of reading, which is an area I am still struggling with. I have spoken with the professor who has supported my decision to apply for aegrotat status.
Currently, I am seeing a seeing a sports doctor here in Kingston, as well as a concussion specialist in Toronto. I am doing a number of cognitive training programs and physiotherapy in attempt to speed up the healing process and gain more information about my injury. Although these things are helpful, they are also very time consuming, making the completion of the course more difficult. As well, after revaluating my graduating requirements, I have just dropped a course this semester, bringing my workload down to 15 units for a more manageable schedule.
I hope you will accept my appeal for aegrotat status.
