Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Hello,

I am submitting an official appeal to drop my summer ANAT 100 course after the designated drop period. My name is Parker Manktelow (20105412) and I have recently finished my third year at Queen??s, enrolled in a bachelors of honours undergraduate degree as well as an education degree through the concurrent educate department.

My decision to drop this course is a result of a severe event that occurred on June 30th, of which I am still recovering and seeking treatment for. To be as discrete yet direct as possible, I experienced a traumatic situation which both my body and mental state are still processing.

Beginning on June 30th, I have since been physically ill and emotionally drained as a result of the events that occurred beyond my control and against my will. I have been unable to focus on my academic work and have been using what small productive amounts of time I have to seek professional help for my wellbeing.

I pride myself on being a high achieving student and involved member of the community. This past year has been difficult as a result of other extenuating circumstances, however this recent occurrence has led to a direct connection to my academic performance and overall functionality. I have not been sleeping, eating, nor interacting with many people and I wish to take the remaining month of summer to seek help before I start school again in the fall. In greater detail, the effects the event has had on me include: vomiting, insomnia, anxiety, poor concentration, lack of appetite, and intense mental strain.

At this time I am not in the safest nor most open mindset to want to disclose the specifics of the event that took place to lead to this decision, however the results of the trauma I have been placed under are extremely difficult to manage. It has taken a lot to put aside my pain to acknowledge the events that occurred and ask for aid, and my doctor has placed full support in the notion to drop this course to ensure my health increases. I have included professional documentation from my clinic and nurse practitioner to verify my circumstances.

I have no doubt I will continue to work hard and achieve excellence in my remaining years at Queen??s, however I can only do so by addressing the current circumstances that have since withheld me from my normal behaviour. I hope with the grant of this dropped course, I can use my time to get help and be ready for a happier and safer fall term.

Thank you,

Parker Manktelow
