Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I am wishing to withdraw from ANAT 100 due because I am extremely overburdened and have not had the capability of participating in the course for close to the past month. As some context, I enrolled in ANAT 100 as an elective to go complete the requirements for my engineering degree. I enrolled in the course with a job offer to return to a bank as a business analyst. In this position I would be working from home. However this job was cancelled due to COVID. I scrambled to find another way to finance my next year of university but could not, until mid-June.

In mid June I had the opportunity to take a high paying job in the Yukon, working in construction management. Confident I could still take the course, I took the job. When I arrived here in the Yukon, I was asked to travel to extremely remote job sites to manage small teams. I was in areas with no cell service and no wifi available. I have just recently returned. I did not know I was going to be without service or wifi for longer than a couple of days, but it turned out to be weeks.

I would normally try and recover my grade in the course and devote a lot of time to getting back on track, but in this case, I don't think I'll be able to. Fall semester of 2020, I fell sick during final exam season and missed three final exams. I will have to take these exams at the end of August, and they require a lot of attention because they are crucial to my degree. I work an average of 11 hours a day and am on the road a lot.

This situation has caused me a lot of stress the past few days, and dropping the course would be the best course of action for my academic career. Had I known this was going to happen earlier, I would have dropped the course earlier, but I could not.
